The Ploy Rebooted: Rove McManus

This is the first of a series of special episodes, in which we air a classic interview Mike conducted on The Ploy in the last 8 years of the show. The inaugural episode is one Mr. Rove McManus.

Rove spoke to Mike in 2009, coincidentally on our 100th episode, when celebrating the 10th anniversary of his hit television show ‘Rove’. It aired from 1999-2009, and just after this interview was conducted, Rove ended his show at the end of the 10 year run. Nowadays he lives in the U.S. with his wife and new baby, with regular trips back to Australia.

Future rebooted episodes will follow, and we will have fresh episodes coming very soon with exciting new guests, but for now, here is Mr. McManus!

The Ploy 163: Sam Mac

Mike is joined by comic and television and radio personality Sam Mac.

Sam is a regular host and correspondent on Network Ten’s The Project, and co-host of the Fox Sports show The B-League and previously appeared on the breakfast show Wake Up. Sam is also a regular on the radio having hosted radio shows in Sydney, Perth and Adelaide, including a stint anchoring the Wil & Lehmo show on Triple M alongside Wil Anderson and Anthony ‘Lehmo’ Lehmann.

Mike asks Sam about his start hosting Sam Mac’s Single Bed on community television, how his love of Conan O’Brien styles his own comedic sensibilities, his radio career, and who he learnt most from, what would be his dream show to do, and Sam helps Mike create a new sign off for the show.

Welcome

After eight years of comedy, interviews and discussions about the news of the week, The Ploy is changing into a brand new show from July 2014.

We will now showcase interviews with interesting personalities and groups who have stories to tell. We will continue to feature some of our long time contributors as well, prior to each episodes interview.

We hope you enjoy the new show!

The Ploy 162: Awkward

After months of chemotherapy Paul confesses his cancer diagnosis to his family, having just three months left to live. Distraught, Mike is forced to step in as the family provider. Left to his own devices, Mike whips up a fresh creme brûlée — calming the situation momentarily. Meanwhile Kelsey has started drinking again, but finds herself in trouble when caught in a bar fight at a lesbian biker bar, will she be able to escape?

This week on the show, we talk about Kelsey’s boyfriend Eastside, Paul’s nerd-camp in Los Angeles, how Paul is just one step away from having a Mexican boyfriend, and we discuss the big fight between Paul and Kels. Plus Mike’s noodle restaurant experience and we give Paul a eulogy, just in case he dies before the next episode.

The Ploy 161: New York

After a heated argument, Mike was last seen swimming in the ocean during a dark and stormy night. Left without their father, Paul and Kelsey attempt to run the family restaurant alone. Unbeknownst to them, a school of angry loan sharks are on their way to collect Mike’s debt to a mysterious “investor.” What will happen next? We shall sea.

This week features hosts Paul and Kelsey with stories about Kelsey’s recent NYC trip, Paul’s twitter fight, Okcupid experiences, Paul’s drunken Instagram videos, and much more. Kelsey tries to be funny, fails, and then throws up.
